Adding Intelligence to Lighting Applications Driving LEDs with a Charge Pump Contrary to other topologies, a charge pump based LED driver does not require the use of inductors. This provides a more compact and less expensive circuit. The downside is that charge pumps cannot supply large amounts of current compared to the other topologies.
